CentOS Linux Servers
CentOS Dedicated Servers and Colocation
CentOS has become especially popular on our dedicated servers and colocation services due to it's solid design without unneeded frills (unlike the alternative Red Hat spin-off of Fedora Linux). As it is intended to be dedicated specifically for server use already, our colocation and even VPS customers tend to find CentOS to be especially effective in meeting their hosting goals.
Distribution Overview
Based directly off of Red Hat Enterprise Server, CentOS brings forward a free alternative to a very respected Linux distribution. Able to run on our standard dedicated servers, as well as virtually any breed of colocation hardware and even Virtuozzo VPS, CentOS Linux is a very viable option that can be made to run on nearly any server architecture.
Server Versioning Scheme
The versioning scheme for CentOS Linux is broken down between Major and Minor release candidates (just like Red Hat Server). These server releases are dedicated to either that of a revolutionary or evolutionary nature accordingly, and generally line up with the most recent corresponding release of Red Hat Enterprise Server. Therefore, a good indication of what to expect in the next CentOS release for your dedicated or colocation server, is to check the most recent release of RedHat Linux.
